Hi all, I write romantic suspense and small-town contemporary novels. I have two series, Dangerous Series and Sierra Creek Series as well as other novels. I also have a couple of my recipes in cookbooks. Next time, I'll have an apple pie recipe for everyone. So, remember to come back.
5 Reasons to Garden
Garden even on the Patio or Deck
I’m happy summer is here. How about you? Or are you in the southern hemisphere getting ready for winter? In any case, gardening takes some planning. No matter what you put in the ground, getting the soil prepared for planting can make the difference in a mediocre or bumper crop.
It's not too late to put in a garden. In our area, we are lucky because vegetation grows easily, if it is indigenous to the area or not. I’m hoping our plum tree is especially bountiful this year. Soon, we will plant an apple tree, a red delicious to be specific.
With the price of vegetables going up this year, we are planting more than last season. I admit I’m not one who likes to get dirty or play in the mud. I like my fingernails long, clean and polished. However, I love fruits and veggies. I’ve decided to do more planting. How about you?
After hours in front of the computer, it’s comforting to work in the yard. I relax and sometimes come up with new plots for my books. Below are my reasons for gardening.
The Five Reasons:
1. Vegetables taste better picked straight from the garden
I hadn’t been gardening for a while and had become used to store-bought veggies. But last year, hubby and I planted tomatoes, lettuce and snap peas and were surprised at the difference in the flavor. I’d forgotten how amazing food fresh from the garden could taste.
2. Convenience
There is no need to fire up the car and enter a crowded store.
3. Choice
You don’t have to depend on the local market to bring in what you want to eat. Your garden is designed for your appetite. You may choose the type of tomato, lettuce, bean, herb, etc. you want to plant.
4. Better nutrition
Because you planted them, you will know there are no added pesticides, unless you choose to do so.
5. A small space can result in many vegetables
It doesn’t take much water, space, or effort. One to three pots on a patio or deck could supply tomatoes, green beans, herbs and more.
