Why Read Romantic Suspense?

Hi all, thanks for stopping by. I’m excited because I have finished writing book 4 in the Dangerous Series, Dangerous Moves. On Pre-order now. Release date November 5.

This is the time of the year, Halloween, when spooks and ghosts are out and about. There are many scary books and movies, please leave a comment below with your favorite book or movie for Halloween.

So why read romantic suspense?

A reader and a writer, I’ve often wondered why we are attracted to a dash of love with a slash of suspense. I guess a psychologist could answer that. Still, romantic suspense and mystery continue to be popular since the eighteen hundreds.

Dangerous Moves Dangerous Series

As a teen, I discovered romantic suspense novels in the basement of a friend’s house. They had shelves filled with classic romantic suspense books. It was obvious they had been read and then placed there for safekeeping. I was allowed to choose several. I took them home and quickly read them. I thank all who have a “keeper shelf” and share them. 😊

For me, a well-planned romance, and an equally well-plotted suspense is exciting and holds a reader’s attention. The two stories are woven together each moving the plot forward, keeping readers turning the pages.

A compelling love story is necessary with all the tension falling in love causes. A believable villain is important too, not just a crazy man or woman wanting to destroy things. A villain with a credible goal, even if the average person would think the goal is completely wrong, is important. It works because the bad guy believes he’s righteous. That keeps him motivated.

Bad guys or gals should be intelligent, people to be reckoned with, and fear-inducing. The hero and heroine must be sympathetic and just as smart and motivated as their adversary. After all, right is on their side.

Mysteries are often written in the first person. However, the romantic suspense has multiple points of view allowing the reader to understand the motivation of many characters. The reader may see danger when the heroes do not, causing the reader to yell, “Watch out! Don’t go in there!”

There is a possibility the villain may win and all will be lost, but the reader can experience the danger and excitement in their safe place. If romantic suspense and mystery are for you, I hope you will look at my Dangerous Series Books, Dangerous Web Book 1😊
