Spring is finally warming up. We had a late winter and I was so waiting for the flowers to bloom. Now it's time to plant and this year besides the veggies my hubby and I usually have, I’m going to buy a fruit tree. I love apples and we will choose one. An organic apple farm figures importantly in the Sierra Creek Series books, and one of my characters often bakes pies.
What is your favorite dessert? Our family loves pie. Today, I have an apple pie recipe for you.
In the Sierra Creek Series book My Country Heart, two new residents in Sierra Creek are at a crossroads in their lives. Though for different reasons, each is searching for answers to help them move toward their future. A jewelry designer and a firefighter have little in common but are forced into close quarters. Will sparks fly?

The Apple Pie Recipe. I'd love to hear how your pie turns out.
Dutch Apple Pie
Ingredients:
1. Your favorite from-scratch pie crust or 1 frozen ready-made deep dish pie crust
5 1⁄2 cups peeled cored sliced cooking apples. I like Mackintosh, a little tart, and Golden Delicious, they are sweeter.
1 teaspoon lemon or orange zest
1⁄4 cup granulated sugar or sugar substitute
1⁄4 cup brown sugar, packed –or substitute
3 tablespoons flour
1⁄2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
Topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup brown sugar—change to sugar substitute if you want to
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°F
Fit pie crust into pie plate. In a large bowl: mix sliced
apples, zest, both sugars, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg and put into the pie crust.
Prepare topping: In a medium bowl, with a fork, mix flour, both sugars, and butter until coarsely crumbled. Sprinkle evenly over apples.
Bake at 375°F for 50 minutes or until done. It will be bubbly around the edges.
